Objective

To obtain relations between current and voltage of different elements in a circuit comprising of a resistance, an inductance and a set of capacitances.

Alternating Current (AC) Circuit Characteristics

An AC Circuit consists of three fundamental elements that impede the flow of current:

• Resistance R
• Inductance L that impedes current flow in an a.c. circuit as inductive reactance X_L
• Capacitance C that impedes current flow in an a.c. circuit as capacitive reactance X_C

The circuit characteristics depend on which of these elements are present and whether connected in series or parallel.
